Road to Success
The goal of the program is to encourage
improvement in literacy which will help develop daily and lifelong
reading habits, specifically by READING EVERY DAY at least 20 minutes,
to improve vocabulary, proficiency, and communication skills.
The
Ken Garff Road to Success is a program founded by the Robert H. and
Katharine B. Garff Foundation, in collaboration with the Governor's
Commission on Literacy, to encourage reading beginning in kindergarten.
This statewide program began in 2007 with 50 pilot schools serving
approximately 50,000 students. During the 2010-2011 school year, the
program grew to include over 240 participating elementary schools and
more than 175,000 studThe goal of the program is to encourage

Every
school year, each participating school sets a reading goal and informs
students and parents of the goal, the incentives, and ways to accomplish
the goal. Elementary students are encouraged to READ EVERY DAY. The
program provides monthly incentives for the entire student body of each
participating school as a gentle reminder to read each day.
Community
support is vital to the success of the program. Please join us in
helping young readers learn the most valuable skill they can acquire
early in their educational experience - help them learn to read!
